Research
My research has focused on how law can be used to promote equality or reinforce hierarchies, with an emphasis on gender and sexuality. Most of this work examines points of intersection and how those are navigated. A significant thread has focused on institutional competence in the context of federalism and separation of powers in enforcement, while other threads have focused on the way worklaw shapes opportunities to accomplish policy goals outside of the employment relationship. Most recently, my scholarship has focused on one particular clash: claims to religious rights as a defense to laws to promote equality and bodily autonomy.
